Patients come to us about porcelain veneers for all kinds of reasons. Some have had an accident and want to restore chipped or cracked teeth. Others have noticed gradual wear: discolouration, uneven edges, a smile that no longer looks the way it used to. And some simply want a change: a different shape, a brighter colour, a smile that finally feels like them.
Whatever brought you here, the answer starts the same way — with a conversation.
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin, hand-crafted shells that can address a wide range of concerns. But whether they’re right for you depends on your individual circumstances. We take the time to understand what you’re hoping to achieve, walk you through your options, and show you what veneers could look like for your specific smile, or whether a different approach might serve you better.
No two smiles are the same. Neither is the advice we give.
Porcelain veneers typically require 2 to 6 appointments covering planning, preparation and fitting. Your final veneers take 2 to 3 weeks to craft.

Everything you need to know about becoming a patient at Green Door Dental, including:
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain, hand-crafted by experienced dental technicians to closely match the look and feel of a natural tooth.
To fit them, your dentist prepares the tooth surface so the veneer sits properly and bonds firmly. Some patients feel apprehensive about this part of the process — if that sounds like you, our dental team at Moss Vale and Gregory Hills will take the time to walk you through exactly what to expect.
Once fitted, your veneers are permanently bonded to your natural teeth. Most patients find they can speak, eat and drink comfortably as normal.
With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 15 to 20 years or more. Caring for them is the same as caring for your natural teeth: daily brushing and flossing, and regular check-up and clean visits to your dentist.
As with natural teeth, very hard foods should be avoided to protect your veneers over time. Your dentist will give you specific care advice at your fitting appointment.
Our dentists work closely with skilled local ceramists to determine the material, colour and shape of your veneers — ensuring every detail is matched to your smile, your proportions and your complexion.
Many patients come to us with a specific result in mind, often inspired by an image they've seen. While we take every consideration into account, your individual tooth shape, smile and facial structure mean that replicating another person's result isn't always achievable. What we can do is find the right result for your face, your teeth and your smile.
Porcelain veneers can address a range of concerns including slightly crooked teeth, gaps, irregular shapes, and discolouration or staining.
Where more significant alignment correction is needed, veneers can be combined with teeth straightening options such as Invisalign or braces. In these cases, alignment is addressed first and veneers are placed afterwards — giving you a result that works with your natural tooth position rather than around it.
Whether veneers alone or a combined approach is right for you is something your dentist will assess at your consultation. If a different path would serve you better, they will walk you through the alternatives.
It is a fair question and worth understanding before you proceed. Preparing your teeth for veneers is permanent — it involves reshaping a small amount of the outer tooth surface so the veneer can sit and bond correctly. Your tooth root remains in place, but this part of the process cannot be reversed.
Most patients tolerate preparation well. Your dentist will explain exactly what is involved at your consultation, including what to expect during and after the appointment, so you can make an informed decision.
If you have concerns about the preparation process, our experienced dental team is happy to talk them through before you commit to anything. Treatment risks, recovery and considerations can be found [here].
Porcelain is naturally more stain-resistant than natural tooth enamel, which means your veneers are less likely to discolour over time. That said, care still matters — daily brushing and flossing and regular check-up and clean visits will help keep your veneers looking their best for longer.
Your dentist will give you specific care advice at your fitting appointment.
Both options have their merits and the right choice depends on your individual circumstances.
Composite veneers generally cost less and can often be completed in a single appointment. They require less tooth preparation than porcelain. The trade-off is that they tend to have a shorter lifespan and may be more prone to staining over time.
Porcelain veneers involve more preparation and a higher upfront cost, but are generally more durable and more stain-resistant than composite. Porcelain also more closely mimics the natural translucency of tooth enamel, which is why many patients find the aesthetic result more natural-looking. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years or more.
Your dentist will help you understand which option is better suited to your teeth, your goals and your budget.
We’re confident you’ll be happy with your first check up and clean, but if you’re not: enjoy your next one on us!
