DesignIcon

If you’ve been researching how much dental implants cost, you’ve likely found a lot of different price ranges out there. You may have even noticed some dental implant quotes are thousands of dollars apart. And now, you’re probably wondering why there’s such a big difference between what *seems* like fairly similar treatments. Confusing, right?

Never fear! We’re here to help you decipher the cost of dental implants. The first thing you need to know is that there are a few important factors that will determine your dental implants cost. These factors can (and usually do!) vary from case to case, which is why you’ll often see different prices for dental implant treatment.

In this article, we’ll take a look at each of these important factors and why they can impact how much dental implants cost.

What is the cost of dental implants in Australia?

Let’s start by looking at the bigger picture: How much do dental implants cost in Australia?

As a general guide, the average cost of dental implants can range between $4,000 to $8,000 for a single dental implant. If you’re looking at replacing all or most of your teeth in your upper or lower jaw, a full mouth dental implant solution like All on 4 could range up to approx. $38,000 per jaw.

At our Gregory Hills and Moss Vale dental practices, the cost of a single dental implant starts from $5,760 and the cost of All on 4 dental implants starts from $32,000 per upper or lower jaw.

Psst… Don’t let the cost of dental implants lock you out of a happy, gap-free smile.

At Green Door Dental, you can close the door on financial stress. We have a number of flexible payment plans for dental implants so you can fill your gaps and get your smile back, worry-free.

5 factors that impact the cost of dental implants

Earlier we mentioned that there are a number of varying factors that can affect how much you’ll pay for dental implant treatment. These factors include:

1. The complexity of your case (and whether you require additional procedures)

2. How many dental implants you need

3. Your dentist’s experience in this type of procedure

4,. The quality of the components used in your treatment

5. The type of sedation used in your implant procedure

1. The complexity of your case (and whether you require additional procedures)

As a general rule of thumb: the more complex the work, the higher the cost of your dental implant treatment. The reason for this is complex cases often require a longer treatment time, additional treatment planning and more follow-up appointments.

In some cases, additional procedures, like the removal of existing teeth, treatment of gum disease or jaw bone grafting, must be completed before the dental implants can be placed. If this work is not carried out properly, it could put the patient at risk of implant failure. All of this additional work on your case will increase your overall cost of dental implants.

The dental implant procedure is the type of treatment you want to do once and do right. So, it pays to make sure your dentist is working with the highest quality components, materials and suppliers. Although this may increase the cost of your implant treatment, the beautiful end result and successful long-term outcomes will be your return on investment.

Some patients may receive dental implants as part of a Smile Makeover treatment or may wish to enhance their results with additional cosmetic treatments, such as teeth whitening or porcelain veneers. And you guessed it — these additional costs will result in a more expensive dental implant treatment.

2. How many dental implants you need

Another easy rule of thumb to remember: the more dental implants you need, the higher the cost. Likewise, the number of dental crowns or bridges you need will also influence the cost of your implant treatment.

To help you make sense of how many dental implants, crowns or bridges you may need, we’ve outlined what this could look like for different tooth loss cases below:

If you’re replacing just one tooth…

You’ll require:

- a single dental implant + one dental crown

If you’re replacing a few teeth…

For several missing teeth in a row, you may require:

- at least two dental implants + one dental bridge

For several missing teeth in different places, you may require:

- multiple dental implants + multiple dental crowns and/or bridges (depending on the number of missing teeth and their locations in the mouth)

If you’re replacing all or most of your teeth…

For a fixed full-mouth teeth replacement solution like All on 4, you may require:

- at least four dental implants + one dental bridge of up to 12 teeth

For a removable full mouth teeth replacement solution like overdentures, you may require:

- two dental implants in the lower jaw + one denture bridge

3. Your dentist’s experience in dental implant procedures

Whether you’re getting a single dental implant or a full mouth restoration with All on 4, your dentist’s experience is key to the success of your treatment and longevity of your new smile. The dental implants procedure is complex, requiring carefully planning and advanced technical skill. You’ll want to ensure you receive implant treatment from an experienced implant dentist who performs this procedure regularly. It’s also a good idea to ask your potential implant dentist if they have long-term patient follow-ups for dental implants or All on 4. This will allow you to see both the immediate and long-term results they can achieve.

4. The quality of the components used in your treatment

A lot of the variation in the cost of dental implants comes down to quality. Sure, you’ll want to ensure the high quality of your dentist’s work by looking at long-term patient case studies that prove it can stand the test of time. But you’ll also want to ensure your dentist isn’t skimping on the quality of the actual components used in your treatment.

When you see a quote for the cheapest dental implants, beware! Cut costs could indicate cut corners, especially in the quality of your dental implants, dental crowns or tooth bridges.

Titanium dental implants will vary in price and lower cost implants may mean they have come from a cheaper supplier — not a reputable manufacturer. Why is this a problem? Cheaper titanium implants will not have the clinically proven biocompatibility and durability of high-quality titanium implants from reputable suppliers. This could increase the risk of implant failure and may result in more complicated (and costly) procedures down the track.

Likewise, dental crowns and tooth bridges made from more premium materials by highly skilled prosthetists and ceramists will be more expensive. However, they will last longer and give you a more natural outcome. It’s also important to note that the cost of dental crowns or bridges will increase if you require more customisation.

The dental implant procedure is the type of treatment you want to do once and do right. So, it pays to make sure your dentist is working with the highest quality components, materials and suppliers. Although this may increase the cost of your implant treatment, the beautiful end result and successful long-term outcomes will be your return on investment.

5. The type of sedation used in your implant procedure

The dental implant procedure can be performed under different types of sedation, such as oral sedation or IV sedation. Sedation helps patients to feel more relaxed, calm and comfortable during their implant procedure. It’s important to note that sedation will come at an additional fee and some types of sedation cost more than others, which will impact the overall cost of dental implants. However, Medicare may cover a portion of your sedation fee so you may be able to claim back some costs.
